After the Season 7 finale shocker of lieutenant Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) killing captain LaGuerta (Lauren Vélez), fans knew that Dexter and Debra's already fragile sibling relationship would be the basis of the show's final season: with Deb having to choose between her respected position at the police department and the undying love she has for her killer brother. So what better way to end a series about America's favorite serial killer than to have him meet his maker in the eighth and final season?
Dexter (Michael C. Hall), the blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro Police Department who leads a double life as a serial killer, only kills those who fit his code. This season Dexter finally learns more about his troubled past. He meets the maker of his monster, Charlotte Rampling, a neuropsychiatrist dubbed by Miami Metro as "the psychopath whisperer." With Charlotte Rampling on board the "slice of life," Dexter feels like a French thriller. Meanwhile, Deb has lost everything she knew about herself since the last season. She's struggling with life out of the department, without her morals, and without her brother. Jennifer Carpenter's Debra Morgan has been a big key for me returning to Dex each season - her intensity is undeniable, as is the chemistry between the Morgans.
This season of Dexter proves very promising so far - the pacing and tone is engulfing. Showtime is losing a killer show, and the network is hoping that Dexter fans will easily shift to the new Ray Donovan, by practically shoving it down our throats. Ray Donovan could potentially be stepping up to the kill table that Dexter has been prepping for eight years. What will be the demise of our beloved vigilante? If Dexter gets caught by at least a number of his coworkers at Miami Metro, there will be no way out for him. Do his fans really want him to continue killing without any consequences for his brutal, yet sometimes understandable actions? Your dark passengers are waiting...
What do you think of Ray Donovan?
ReplyDeleteI honestly have not stuck around for Ray Donovan. What with Breaking Bad, True Blood, Orange is The New Black, and The Newsroom around - there is no time!
